League of Women Voters of Texas Announces
2022–2024 Board of Directors
November Elections, Voting Rights Among State League’s Goals

Austin, TX – The League of Women Voters of Texas (LWVTX) today announced who will serve on its 2022–2024 Board of Directors. Representing counties across the state, the slate was approved by members at the recent LWVTX Annual State Convention.

“Our new Board is full of intelligent, passionate, dedicated women, and I am both humbled and excited to be working with them,” said Joyce LeBombard, new LWVTX President. “Our previous President, Grace Chimene, and the prior Board did a fantastic job leading us through challenging and divided times in our state, and we are honored to pick up the mantle and continue the important work that LWVTX started back in 1919.”

LeBombard went on to say the League’s mission of empowering voters and defending democracy is more critical than ever after a challenging 87th Legislative Session and with the November 2022 elections coming up. The Texas League is resolved to continue its strategy to encompass initiatives including outreach to underserved communities and advocating with legislators to make voting easier.

“The Texas League has a great opportunity to grow and reach underserved communities, whether that be in urban areas or in rural areas where voices have struggled to be heard,” said LeBombard. “We will continue, with a refreshed sense of energy, to bring our nonpartisan voice and information to voters and nonvoters alike, and to the Texas Legislature.”

LWVTX creates and issues a nonpartisan voters guide and the digital VOTE411.org site with each election. Its local area Leagues can be seen at city events, in high schools and colleges registering voters as well as naturalization ceremonies, registering thousands Texans citizens to vote every year. During the 2020 elections and again in 2022, the League provides extensive education on election practices and voting rights. The League also joined multiple lawsuits when voting rights were being suppressed.

“The League was formed more than 100 years ago by courageous women who were willing to stand up for their rights. While the issues have changed, democracy can never be taken for granted,” said LeBombard. “Our Board of Directors is poised and ready to join other leagues across the United States to ensure that everyone’s voice can be heard in fair, free elections.”
