November 2022 Action News!

Dear ~~first_name~~,

While we wait for ballots to be counted and the results to be certified, we want to thank you, the voters, for making your voices heard by voting. We owe huge gratitude to the people who make our elections run: the election officials, poll workers, election observers, postal workers, and volunteers. We also thank all our League members who have been hard at work registering voters, holding candidate forums, gathering candidate and ballot information, and publishing the League’s nonpartisan Voters Guide and VOTE411.org election information, and communicating all of this on their Leagues’ websites, social media, and newsletters. Thank you ALL for your dedicated work to power our elections this year.

Over 8.1 million people turned out to vote in Texas, with 2.6 million of those votes coming on Election Day. That is a turnout rate of 45.6%, which is better than the average but lower than the 2018 turnout rate, which was 53%.

Texas Election Protection hotline for Texas handled 2,680 reported issues, which is not too bad for over 8.1 million voters. Over the coming weeks, we will analyze the problems to improve voter education, outreach, and advocacy during the Legislative session.

To that same end of improving our work, if you had any issues during this election, we would like to hear Your Voting Story by filling out this brief survey. Of course, your personal information will be kept private. But having actual voter stories of problems helps us demonstrate voters' real needs to the Legislature.

Mark your calendars to SAVE THE DATE for our Women Power Texas - A Making Democracy Work Dinner on February 26th, 2023. More details to come!

In League,

Your Texas League in Action

LWVTX Voters Guides

The League of Women Voters of Texas shipped approximately 43,000 printed Voters Guides across the state to libraries, food banks, sponsors, and voting advocates. We don't have the statistics for VOTE411.org yet, but we will share that information once it's available. Thank you to all of our November 2022 Voters Guide sponsors, along with everyone who helped promote and share the Voters Guide!!!

County Website Review

In preparation for the 2022 General Election, the League of Women Voters of Texas completed its ninth review of county election websites, found here. The League commends the 35 websites rated as “outstanding” and the 32 websites rated as “very good” We offer congratulations to these counties and celebrate all counties, large and small, which meet the needs of their voters.

“The League acknowledges that the 2022 General Election in Texas is being conducted under the continuing stress of a new, massive election bill, Senate Bill 1, which created challenges for the Secretary of State, county election officials and Texas voters. County election officials are under additional strain due to wrongful accusations of election fraud, misinformation and disinformation.” said Joyce LeBombard, president of the League of Women Voters of Texas. “We will continue to support our hardworking Texas election officials, and provide voter education to encourage voters to participate in our elections.”

Previous and current county website reviews can be found on the League of Women Voters of Texas’ County Election webpage

Share Your Voting Story!

LWV Texas is once again gathering stories from Texas voters about their voting experience, this time for the November 8th Midterm Election cycle. We also welcome you to share your friends' and family's voting experiences, if they give you permission to share for them.

Your story will help the League learn about how voting procedures impacted Texas voters and any challenges you may have experienced. We will use this information (without revealing any personal identifying information) to enhance our nonpartisan voter education and to advocate at the Capitol for improvements to voting in Texas on behalf of voters.

League of Women Voters of Texas offers Texans a way to prepare for voting

Dailyn Wells, KAMR/KCIT | Published on 10/20/2022

“There is a lot of misinformation and disinformation in the public domain, meant to diminish people’s faith in our democracy. The League will stand and defend democracy by giving voters the reliable, trustworthy tools they need to vote confidently. Both VOTE411.org and the League website contain the information on candidates all voters need! We do not support or oppose any political party or candidate. We simply want voters to know where the candidates stand on the issues that impact their lives,” said Joyce LeBombard, President of the League of Women Voters of Texas.
