Dear ~~first_name~~,
Yesterday, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) ruled that "Texas and Louisiana do not have a legal right, known as standing, to challenge a Biden administration policy that prioritizes certain groups of unauthorized immigrants for arrest and deportation," as reported in the SCOTUSblog.
The policy stated that immigration officials should prioritize the apprehension and deportation of three specific groups of people: suspected terrorists; noncitizens who have committed crimes; and those caught recently at the border. Texas and Louisiana sued in Federal court to change the policy, but SCOTUS ruled 8-1, with Justice Samuel Alito as the lone dissenter, that the states have no standing in the matter.
The League of Women Voters of Texas applauds the Supreme Court for their ruling in this case and supports this decision.
