Official voting guide for March 2026 primary elections

Josh Hoggard | Published on 2/12/2026
TEXOMA (KFDX/KJTL) — On March 3, 2026, Texomans will head to the polls to cast their ballots for the 2026 Democratic and Republican primary elections and decide which candidates will represent them on the ballot in the November midterm elections.

As Your Local Election Headquarters, the team at KFDX, KJTL, and Texoma’s Homepage wants to ensure that Texoma voters have all the information they need to make an informed decision at the polls on Election Day.

To that end, Texoma’s Homepage proudly presents the official voting guide for the March 2026 primary elections.

What’s the point of a primary election?

Primary elections  are held before general elections and are used to either narrow the field of candidates or outright select one to represent a particular political party.

Both Democrats and Republicans will use primary elections to select their candidates to represent them in the November 2026 General Election.

For many local races in the March 2026 Primary Elections, all candidates vying for political office have filed as Republicans, with no Democratic candidates filing to run. For those particular races, this means the primary election will decide the outcome of the race.

In Texas, a candidate must receive a majority of votes to be declared the winner. If no candidate is successful in obtaining an outright majority (over 50%) during the primary election, a runoff will be held between the two candidates receiving the most votes.

The State of Texas holds open primaries, meaning voters are not required to be registered as members of the party for which they choose to vote. A voter who is not registered as members of the party can vote in either primary.

National, statewide races on March 2026 ballots

During the 2026 March primary elections, voters will determine which candidate will represent the Democratic and Republican parties for the following races for seats in the United States Congress:
United States Senator for Texas
United States Representative for Texas House District 13

Voters in Texas will also select Democratic and Republican candidates for several contested statewide races, including:

Governor of Texas
Lieutenant Governor
Attorney General
Comptroller of Public Accounts
Commissioner of Agriculture
Railroad Commissioner
Judge for the Court of Criminal Appeals, Places 3 and 9

Finally, Democratic and Republican voters will answer “yes” or “no” to a number of propositions. These propositions are not official ballot measures, but rather, a means to gauge where public opinion stands on each of the given topics for each particular political party.
